The Around the World on Wednesday (AWOW) team and I are hopping today — here on our blogs, and on Instagram. For this month’s challenge we are making projects with the theme “The Way We Were” and today is also 9/11 – a date that will forever be on the minds of Americans. Before I go on, let me first introduce the AWOW Team–here’s who we are and where we are in the world:

Twenty-three years ago, at 8:46 am the first tower was struck and I think everyone can remember where they were and what they were doing. I was commuting into work, living in Boston at the time, and had just gotten back from CA the night before from a work trip. I was toggling between Howard Stern, Kiss 108, and NPR on the radio, and after the first tower was hit all three stations were sort of reporting breaking news, but not quite sure what it was, was it a joke, what are we seeing, etc. Then the 2nd tower was hit and it was literally dead air. What an emotional day and months that lie ahead. We will never forget.
For this post, we could interpret the theme, and reflect on this day, however we saw fit. For me, this day will always remind me of restored patriotism. Despite the tragedies of the day, and the devastating loss, America rallied together and for weeks the city of Boston was covered in red, white, and blue. We came together as a community and nation, and that’s the positive thing I remember. I hope my project conveys all of those emotions. Let’s take a look:

This is a gatefold card – made intentionally to mimic the Twin Towers. I used all current Stampin’ Up! product, including blue striped DSP from Countryside Inn pack and I used the Alphabet A’ la Mode dies. I love LOVE how this turned out. Let’s look at the inside:

I love the sentiment on the inside as well. This is from an Online Exclusives stamp set called Comforting Thoughts. The heart is from the new Humble Home. Shop the Supplies through the links below.
This card captures all of my memories and feelings about 9/11. I hope you like it, and wish you and all you hold dear a reflective day.
